Zig Zag Zing -- Art Show
As a Certified California Naturalist, Jessie is always curious about the intersection between nature and art, which led to a question at the heart of this show: How to capture the musicality of birds in art? At first, she wondered if a bird’s song translates to the values in the painting. Then, Jessie began painting a hummingbird and discovered that sound translates into the movement of the brush. A Zig Zag Zing! Her show is an invitation to look at the brushstrokes on a bird while recalling the bird’s song (or look up their song at All About Birds webpage). Even better, see if you can make the bird’s song while viewing the art. In Morning Diving Dance (sold), a raven is painted with quick croak, croak, croak brushstrokes as it sits on the fence post. Maybe I Will shows the Indian Peafowl’s incessant call as brushstrokes in a swooping circular way, representative of his attitude. Spiral Sunset Song is a homage to the beautiful twirling sound of redwing blackbirds at sunset. The Belted Kingfisher (sold) shows a playful energy as it lands along Big River Beach in Mendocino, CA.
